People of IPS Cascais: Tracey Vaz

People of IPS Cascais: Tracey Vaz

Meet Tracey Vaz, the Head of the Learning Support Assistants here at IPS Cascais.

Tracey is someone who treasures the simple joys of life and still carries with her the warmth of her childhood and great family memories. Her journey into education and into IPS began naturally when her boys were young, and it has remained a role that fits her caring and positive nature. Tracey brings enthusiasm, kindness, and a genuinely upbeat spirit to the IPS community.

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?

I grew up in Northern Ireland and, despite the "troubles”, I had a very happy childhood.

What’s a tradition your family had while growing up that you still cherish?

Every Christmas day I loved going to my grandparents house with all the family. We exchanged gifts, partied, danced and celebrated together. I always love it when the Christmas decorations start to go up around the town.

What is your all-time favorite book, movie, or TV show?

I love the TV series Strictly Come Dancing, a competition with celebrities learning how to dance. I love the old movies like Sound of Music, Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman. It is hard to choose a favourite!

What’s a favourite memory from your childhood?

I simply loved playing outside. There would be groups of children, on our bicycles, begging our parents to stay out for “just another 10 minutes, please!”

How did you become interested in working in education?

When my sons were little I wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. Working in education was the perfect solution!

Tell us about your greatest achievement

Without a doubt, being a mother is my greatest achievement.

What is your steepest learning curve?

I think the whole Covid experience was a huge learning curve for me. I learned to appreciate what really matters in life, to spend quality time with the people I love.

How do you remain curious?

By staying active. I love to exercise, socialise and talk!

What motivates you to keep going during challenging times?

I always try to stay positive! I'm definitely the glass-half-full type and do try to look on the bright side of life. I am definitely an optimistic person.

Who is someone in your life who has had a significant influence on who you are today?

I can’t just put it down to just one person. My family has been my strongest influence and support.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Live for today!

IPS is a great place because....

We care!

What would you like the community of IPS to know about you?

I'm dedicated, caring and positive, always ready to help, listen and have fun.

What’s something you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

I'd love to continue with the same enthusiasm and energy that I have now!
