Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?
I grew up in the historic city of York until I was 11 years old. After that, I lived in the North Yorkshire countryside until I was 18, where there were lots of fields and woods to explore for adventure.
What’s a tradition your family had while growing up that you still cherish?
We all sat around the table for Sunday lunch, which was our traditional family time. We still do this occasionally during Christmas and Boxing Day.

My all-time favourite book and movie is The Lord of the Rings.
What’s a favourite memory from your childhood?
Spending summer holidays with my aunt and uncle in Warwickshire, visiting Birdland and the Lilliput miniature village, and going to watch speedway bike races.
How did you become interested in working in education?
I was invited to help a friend and colleague who was ill, taking over his 3D design and graphics classes at Hull College in 1996.
Tell us about your greatest achievement.
My greatest achievement is marrying my wife. My second greatest achievement is having the opportunity to design and sculpt for different factories around the world.

My steepest learning curve has been learning Portuguese.
How do you remain curious?
I hope I have a curious and vivid imagination that allows me to continue creating new ideas.

I have always been motivated by the desire to create new things and ideas.
Who is someone in your life who has had a significant influence on who you are today?
My wife has had a significant influence on who I am today, as she knows me very well. My first teaching mentors also had a great impact on me.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Keep trying even if you make mistakes, as they are necessary to help you grow and learn.
Why is IPS a great place?
IPS is a great place because everyone is committed and approachable - both to the students and to each other as staff.
What would you like the community of IPS to know about you?
I always try to have a balanced approach to how I live my life. Deep down, I'm still a curious teenager inside.
What’s something you hope to accomplish in the next five years?
I hope to pass on some of my experiences, techniques, and skills to young minds.
