People of IPS Cascais: Chloe Tabley

People of IPS Cascais: Chloe Tabley

Hello, I’m Chloe Tabley, Primary Teacher and I recently joined the Globeducate familiy at IPS. I relocated from Malaysia with my family, where I held a number of leadership positions. I feel that having good fortune of being led by outstanding leaders, it was beneficial to my own leadership journey, ideas with which i can now impart to the pupils at IPS.

What is the best advice you have been given?

It was to consider the values I live by, and then use these as my moral compass within my professional life. I think this gives an opportunity to self reflect, and then move forward knowing the decisions we make are the right ones.

How do you remain curious?

It is a cliche but travel broadens the mind. This summer, my family and I travelled overland through Mongolia - the opportunity to experience life on the steppes, watching this nomadic way of life that is embedded in the success of a community was empowering. It also makes you realise that money and possessions are not the key to happiness.

What does community mean to you?

I believe that creating and maintaining good relationships within a school's community is fundamental to a school's success. A solid community breeds growth and I love contributing to establishments in this sort of way. IPS is a space where friendship, change and learning is welcomed and encouraged by staff, pupils and the parent community and I'm so thrilled to be a part of this.

What traits do you think make a good leader?

I think having the ability to be an empathetic communicator is crucial. We teach our pupils the value of healthy leadership styles, from debating in class,  to standing for positions such as House Captains or the School Council, these are all valuable life skills which we encourage our pupils to embrace.

This year, myself and my wonderful colleague, Shellie Farrell, will be leading the IPS School Council. We have already been wowed by the group's earnest approach and enthusiasm. It is a pleasure to work with such fantastic pupils. I hope you join me in watching the next leaders take centre stage!
