Sustainability is not just a buzzword; it's a necessity for the survival of our planet and future generations. It is important that we, as a school, educate our pupils about how we can act consciously in our everyday lives to protect the precious resources that power our planet.
In an initiative promoted by all Globeducate schools, we are committed to an annual Energy Reduction Campaign. This campaign aims to introduce habits that will contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. Below you can find the 7 changes that we are encouraging our community to adopt:
- Take shorter showers and turn off taps when not in use.
- Unplug appliances that are fully charged.
- Turn off the lights when no one is in the room.
- Wear clothing suitable for the weather to avoid the use of air conditioning devices.
- Switch electronic devices to energy-saving mode.
- Enjoy the evening socialising with family and friends - rather than on electronic devices!
- Spend the day outside, at the park, beach, or perhaps the Sintra hills.
Even seemingly small actions, when multiplied across individuals, communities, and organisations, can have a significant impact on environmental conservation and resource preservation.
While not yet an Eco School, IPS is in the process of setting up a committee of Eco-Warriors to help us with this initiative and to inspire others. Over the coming years we also hope to achieve our Green Flag to take some of our current projects further. This includes our annual tree planting trip and recycling initiatives around school.
