Loving Literature at IPS Cascais

Loving Literature at IPS Cascais

"Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world." – Napoleon Bonaparte

The 2025 Globeducate Reads saw 45 schools participate, celebrating the love of literature in 9 countries, and Portugal was no exception. IPS Cascais had a week full of excitement, creativity, and a celebration of the joy of reading. Throughout the week, children had opportunities to engage in fun, book-related activities designed to inspire their passion for reading. From exciting interactive events to creative classroom activities, every moment was an invitation to explore new stories and characters.

Teen author, Josh Silver, launched the event with a live Q&A session which our pupils enjoyed. To Learn more about this workshops click here

This year’s theme, "Drop Everything and Read," encouraged pupils and staff to take time out of their busy days to read, no matter where they were!

Highlights of Globeducate Reads at IPS Cascais 2025:

  • Online Live Author Visits & Workshops: Pupils had the fantastic opportunity to join live, interactive sessions with authors who shared their creative process and reading tips. These workshops inspired many budding writers and book lovers alike.

  • Pop-Up Library: Our pop-up library was a huge hit, offering students a chance to browse and borrow books in a vibrant and fun environment.

  • Dress-Up Day: Pupils and staff showed off their creativity by dressing up as their favourite book characters. It was wonderful to see so many characters come to life in the hallways!

  • Guess Who’s Reading: A fun mystery activity where students guessed which member of staff was hiding in the photo behind a book. It sparked curiosity and excitement around new stories!

  • Book Scavenger Hunt (Outdoor Learning Adventure): Pupils took part in an exciting outdoor scavenger hunt where they ventured into the school grounds to find clues and book-themed treasures. This activity combined outdoor learning with the thrill of discovery, making it a highlight for everyone involved.
  • Buddy-Up Reading: Our older Pupils paired up with younger ones for special buddy reading sessions, fostering a sense of community, and encouraging a love for reading across year groups.

  • Storytelling Sessions: We also celebrated the magic of storytelling, where pupils had the chance to share their favourite tales with one another, further enhancing their connection to the stories they love.

  • Comic Book Competition: Year 6-8 pupils took part in a thrilling house competition, creating imaginative and engaging comic books. Their stories were creative, fun, and beautifully told, showcasing their storytelling talents.

  • Release a poem: The Portuguese department organised a beautiful activity where students released caged poems, in Portuguese and English, from a bird cage. The poems flew around the school inspiring everyone.

  • And So Much More! From classroom activities to impromptu reading sessions, Globeducate Reads here at IPS Cascais was packed with engaging opportunities to explore new books, share stories, and enjoy reading in all its forms.

  • Looking Ahead: We hope the enthusiasm and love for reading sparked during the week continues throughout the year. We encourage families to continue reading together and exploring new books. We have also launched our Travelling Book Corners – these pupil curated mini libraries are in each classroom for pupils to share the books they love at home with each other.
